After two years of delays, Apple's rebuilt assistant is about to reach real users. Siri AI ships with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate on September 14, but Apple confirmed it will keep a separate beta label even after the operating systems leave testing. The rollout comes with fine print that is worth reading before you get excited.
What it is
Siri AI was unveiled at WWDC in June as an entirely new assistant. It draws on personal context to search messages, emails and photos, can act across apps, understands what is on screen, and pulls answers from the web. A dedicated Siri app lets you revisit or start conversations, with history synced privately through iCloud. Apple says the underlying models are the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models.
The limits
AppleInsider reports several constraints at launch:
- English only at first; French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish follow in October
- Daily usage limits on server-side features, including Siri AI, intelligent photo editing, Image Playground and Apple Foundation 3 cloud models used in Shortcuts. Apple says limits may vary by feature, request complexity and system demand
- Expanded access will be available for a fee in the future, with no price or date announced
- Not available to users under 13, not available in mainland China, and in the European Union limited to Mac and Apple Vision Pro rather than iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch
- Requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later; some advanced features need iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air or newer
Apple has hinted a waitlist could regulate demand based on server capacity, though it has not confirmed one for the public release.
Why the beta label matters
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman flagged months ago that Siri AI would arrive as a beta despite the extra development time. For Apple, that framing buys room to tune reliability and costs. For users, it means the assistant that headlines the iPhone 18 Pro marketing is still officially a work in progress.
