Samsung's software teams are busy this month. The company began pushing its September 2026 security update to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 on September 11, starting in South Korea with a wider rollout expected within days. According to SammyGuru, the package addresses as many as 90 security flaws across the Galaxy family, including some critical Android OS issues.

A quick refresher on the foldables

Samsung unveiled the three phones at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22 and put them on sale August 7. The Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8 update established lines, while the standard Fold 8 is an all-new model with what Samsung describes as a wallet-shaped build. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at $1,199.99 in the U.S. Apple, for its part, took a shot at the category this week by noting its iPhone Duo carries an IP68 dust-tight rating that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lacks.

One UI 9 is almost here

The bigger story for most Galaxy owners is One UI 9.0. Samsung announced on its Community forum that the stable release for the Galaxy S26 series is coming soon, after eight beta builds. SamMobile notes Samsung typically makes that statement only days before a rollout. A separate hotfix beta, firmware S948NKSU4ZZHM at roughly 512MB, went out to the Galaxy S26 Ultra in Korea for stability fixes.

One UI 9 is built on Android 17 and leans into customization and AI conveniences. Highlights Samsung has shown:

  • My FanCam, which keeps a chosen person in focus and auto-reframes video for different social platforms
  • Brief, a set of personalized cards for daily information, recommendations and security insights
  • Expanded customization and productivity tools across the interface

Samsung has not said when the foldables will move from the security patch to the full One UI 9 release, but the S26 rollout is the usual first step.
