Google has brought Gemini to Windows as a native desktop app. Released on September 10, 2026, for Windows 10 and Windows 11, the app runs quietly in the background and pops up as a floating window when you press Alt + Space, so you can ask a question or summarize a file without leaving whatever program you are using.

What the Windows app does

The app has its own window with a side panel for Notebooks and recent conversations, and it hooks into Gmail and Google Drive to pull context and summarize documents. Coverage of the launch says Google has folded in Gemini Spark, its personal agent for multi-step requests that can use a person's Connected Apps, along with image generation through Nano Banana and video creation from the same interface. Some advanced features are limited to paid Google plans, and the app cannot yet manage your inbox or organize local files, though Google says more is on the way.

The September Android drop

A few days earlier, on September 1, Google rolled out its September 2026 Android feature drop. The headline addition lets Gemini remember where you put things that do not have a tracker attached. Saying something like "remember in Find Hub that I put my passport in my bedroom drawer" saves the location, with an optional photo, to a new Remembered tab in the Find Hub app on Android 16 and later.

Other pieces of the drop:

  • Motion Assist, an adjustable bubble overlay that tracks vehicle movement to reduce motion sickness, auto-enabling in cars, buses and trains on Android 17.
  • Gemini Live Guided Vision, which speaks descriptions of objects and text in the camera view, such as food labels or menus, and coaches you to reposition the phone. It is coming to Android 9 and later where Gemini is available.
  • Google Messages and Keep integration for shared grocery lists and vacation notes inside a chat.

Together the two releases show Google pushing Gemini into more places at once: the PC desktop, the lost-and-found drawer, and the camera.
